I Am Bored!

In my location, we have less than two weeks left until the school year ends. While I'm excited for the children to take a break and enjoy some summer fun, I am also aware of how busy this time can be for parents and guardians.
Have you had time to consider some summer activities to engage your child with?
During this break, you'll frequently hear the phrase "I am bored," which can be frustrating at times, especially when you have organized activities to keep them busy, yet they still say they are bored.
One lesson I have learned is not to over-schedule summer activities. There is so much to explore in life, and it's perfectly fine to feel bored; it's a great chance for children to use their creativity and devise a plan to keep themselves engaged in a safe manner (remember to keep the jar of vaseline away from the toddlers lol!).
I once managed a childcare home and recall a summer when I had school-aged children with me during their break. I taught them how to wash a car and clean the interior. I'm eagerly anticipating hearing about their future car detailing business. What I planned as a learning experience became a fun activity they talked about for a while.
As you make plans for the summer please rememebr to let them take the lead and add elements of fun into the plans.
The Parenting Platform's virtual growth hub for preteens is hosting a summer fun day on July 5, and preteens in Saskatoon can now register. We had so much fun lasy year, with some kids choosing a skill to learn over the summer, which turned out to be a wonderful experience for them.

Before I forget, congratulations to the class of 2025!
You overcame the challenges of Covid and global uncertainties, and I am so happy for you. Go forth and accomplish incredible things for your world.
If you don't hear from me throughout the summer, be assured that I am doing well and simply enjoying the summer fun with my family. I'll definitely be on social media and WhatsApp during this time, so see you later!
